Karnataka Govt has sanctioned Rs 15 crore to improve civic amenities and carry out other infrastructure works in Bidar.

BANGALORE: Karnataka Government has sanctioned Rs 15 crore to improve civic amenities and carry out other infrastructure works in Bidar in connection with the '300th year commemorial function' of Guru Gobind Singh, for which lakhs of pilgrims are expected to visit the district headquarters town.

A committee under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary with the Deputy Commissioner, Principal Secretary Kannada and Culture, Information and Tourism, gave a consolidated proposal to develop infrastructure including road development, drinking water facility, and upgradation of drainage system, an official press release said.

Lakhs of pilgrims visit the commemorial function at Nanded in Maharashtra and the Jera Gurudwara in Bidar every year, according to the release.

"The number of these pilgrims is increasing year by year and the resultant pressure on the existing infrastructure is also becoming phenomenal. The 300th year commemorial utsav of Shri Guru Gobind Singh is coming up this year during October and November and 25 to 30 lakh people are expected to take part," it said.
