HYDERABAD: Japan's Sumitomo Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today with the Andhra Pradesh government to set up an Integrated Industrial Utility Centre at the special economic zone near the port city of Visakhapatnam.

Sumitomo General Manager M Abe and Andhra Pradesh Industries Commissioner Rajat Kumar signed the MoU in the presence of Principal Secretary (Industries) K Pradeep Chandra and Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Managing Director Jayesh Ranjan.

An official press release said that a team of Sumitomo officials would visit Hyderabad on July 29 to prepare an action plan and carry the project forward.

Sumitomo also plans to immediately set up its office in Hyderabad for the project.

A Sumitomo Corporation delegation, led by its Managing Executive Officer Kohei Hirao, had met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy on February 21 and submitted a proposal to establish the utility centre.

However, investment and other details related to the project have not yet been revealed.
