PATNA: A Japanese company has submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to carry out the repair work of the vital Mahatama Gandhi bridge, considered as lifeline to the northern part of the state, the Assembly was informed today.

Replying to a short notice question of BJP MLA Vijay Sinha, Minister in-charge for Home Bijendra Prasad Yadav also said the government urged the Centre to grant clearance to the Japanese company soon to start the work.

He said a ban was already in place on trucks having ten and more tyres since April last year due to poor condition of the bridge.

He said 4672 vehicles had been booked so far for violation of the order and a penalty of Rs 13.46 lakh realised from them by way of penalty.

The minister said 144 policemen had also been suspended so far for not strictly enforcing traffic orders on the bridge connecting Patna with Hajipur on the river Ganga.
