COIMBATORE: The proposed IT park in the city, being developed by ELCOT (Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu), has been granted the Special Economic Zone status, a senior official said on Thursday.

The order, granting formal approval from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, was received on Wednesday and accordingly ELCOT was looking for partners to set up IT park in a sprawling 11.56 hectares of land, its Managing Director C Umashankar told reporters here.

ELCOT, with the normal stake of 29 per cent, would restrict its share to 11 per cent in this project, he said adding, that modalities would be finalised after consultations with various stakeholders.

"We, as the developers and with the land, are looking for partners, with no (no) cap on individual unit," he said.

Umashankar, here to discuss with industrial associations, including CII, said that IT officals and chief secretaries were holding meetings to give a final shape to the project, which was on the Government's top priority list.

On becoming operational, since it was pending for the last seven years, the official said that with private participation, it was expected to start within 18 to 24 months
