IMC to study bottlenecks in transport infrastructure
The Indian Merchants Chamber has decided to form a panel to identify bottlenecks in existing transport infrastructure in the western region and suggest ways to overcome them.
"A panel of experts would study the infrastructure and suggest ways to expedite movement of goods from one place to another," IMC Infrastructure Committee Chairman Suneet Maheshwari said here.
"The panel would submit its recommendations by December end. We will take those findings to various state governments in the western region for their approval and implementation," Maheshwari told reporters after a workshop on 'Vision For Transportation and Logistics in Western India'.
The western region comprises Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh. The industry body has decided to first emphasise on the western region as it contributes to one-third of the country's total GDP.
"An integrated transport infrastructure, instead of having a different model in every state is the need of the hour," he said.
