How India plans to safeguard ‘Chicken’s Neck’ through an underground rail network

The Centre is planning to build underground railway tracks along a 40-km strategic corridor in West Bengal, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.The project covers the Siliguri Corridor, or ‘Chicken’s Neck’, which links the Northeast with the rest of India. Officials said the underground stretch will run between Tin Mile Haat and Rangapani, with one line extending toward Bagdogra, critical for air defence.The plan includes two underground and four overground lines, enhancing connectivity and security amid regional border concerns.
