Hindustan Zinc builds Udaipur's first sewage treatment plant
KOLKATA: Hindustan Zinc, part of the Vedanta Group, has come forward and built Udaipur’s fist sewage treatment plant (STP). The STP will treat 30% of the sewage generated by the City of Lakes, which is global tourist destination.

On an average, Udaipur city generates about 70 million litre of sewage per day and cleaning it has been a challenge. Most of the sewage was finding its way to the lakes leading to contamination of water.

Out of this, Hindustan Zinc Sewage Treatment Plant is treating 20 million litre per day. Built at a cost of Rs 170 crore, the STP has been constructed and commissioned on a ‘Design Build Own Operate and Transfer’ basis in association with the government of Rajasthan. Apart from treating sewage, the STP would also generate a large quantity of manure which will be sold by Udaipur Municipal Corporation to local bodies.
