Green Mile to approach NHAI with eco-friendly tech for roads

NEW DELHI: Hyderabad-based infrastructure company Green Mile Infra on Sunday said that it wants to provide the National Highways Authority of India with environment-friendly technology, which would ensure increased lifespan for roads.

Green Mile would approach the NHAI soon in this regard, the company said.

The company, which has already completed two projects -- one for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and another for business process and technology management company Genpact -- said that the technology is a huge success in the West.
"We will approach NHAI in a month's time for our project," Green Mile Infra managing director Shankar Rao said.

The company is looking at an initial business of up to Rs 100 crore from the NHAI projects to implement its eco-friendly technology -- asphalt pavement milling restoration.

The cost-effective technology would increase the lifespan of roads, Rao said, adding that the upper 'black top' layer would last for five years -- after which it can be redone.

Rao said that the application costs barely Rs 5.25 lakh per km for a single-lane highway.

Unlike petroleum-based products, the technology does not harm the environment, he said.
