NEW DELHI: The government has approved exchange of defence land measuring 19.471 acres at Goa and 2.32 acres at Port Blair with Airports Authority of India (AAI) land measuring 5.4 acres at Santa Cruz Mumbai, 3.678 acres at Kochi, 4.68 acres at Porbandar and 2.32 acres at Port Blair.

The proposed exchange of land will be free of cost.

Navy and AAI are co-located at various naval and civil air stations. There have been various cases of tranfer of land between these two institutions in the past. Both Navy and AAI will be using the exchanged land for building infrastructure.

Apart from the 4.68 acres of land at Porbandar, AAI will also transfer 2.42 acres from same place to the Navy. At present AAI is occupying about 25 acres of naval land at Goa. It further requires 8.77 acres of additional Navy land.
