Goa takes measures to ensure land does not go to land sharks

The regional plan 2021 draft plan would be submitted to the state government in June 2008 which will take final shape with certain corrections.

PANAJI: Goa, area-wise the smallest state in India, wants to leave no stone unturned to ensure that the land is saved from the clutches of land sharks wanting to turn the state into a concrete jungle in the name of development.

The regional plan 2021 draft plan would be submitted to the state government in June 2008 which will take final shape with certain corrections.

With a population of 14 lakhs, Goa attracts 25 lakh tourists. The state witnessed a massive public agitation opposing regional plan 2011 for selling Goa outrightly.

The then Planning Minister Anatasio Menserratte had to resign in the wake of the criticism of his plan.

The state government subsequently formed a Task Force headed by renowned architect Charles Correa to prepare a new plan incorporating suggestions from all sections of people.

The Digamber Kamat-led government which initiated the Task Force, not wanting to repeat past mistakes has decided to work on the new regional plan meticulously and is seeking the suggestions and objections from all the stakeholders including political parties.
