Thr National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) said that the Green Development Area (GDA) Policy approved by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will provide an integrated framework for ‘green-oriented’ development in the city.

The policy aims to regulate development in designated rural areas and green belts in the city. The draft policy seeks to incorporate the low density residential areas (LDRA) of the capital where most of the farmhouses are located.

“The move to bring in new regulation will have the government encourage more sustainable and green development. This is the need of the hour, and augurs well for the future,” said In a press statement issued here today, Niranjan Hiranandani, National President, NAREDCO.


The move seeks to provide an integrated framework for development of land falling in designated green belts and low-density residential areas, according to the Master Plan for Delhi 2021.

Hiranandani said that presently, no new residential or commercial construction is allowed in villages located on the fringes of the national capital.

“The draft policy seeks to incorporate the low density residential areas (LDRA) of the capital where most of the farmhouses are located. The policy, which aims to regulate development in designated rural areas and green belts in the city, will also ensure seamless development of infrastructure and road network,” Hiranandani added.

According to Gaurav Jain, Vice President (North), NAREDCO the policy will pave the way for new development.

“At present, no new residential or commercial construction is allowed in villages located on the fringes of the national capital. By bringing in new regulation, the government will encourage more sustainable and green development. It will also curb the misuse of unauthorised constructions and ensuring balanced development,” Jain said.
