GUWAHATI: Team of experts from foreign countries will visit Assam to explore possibilities and advise the state government on the use of new technology Piano Key Weir in the dam building.
The state government has announced that it will soon constitute a committee comprising of international experts to look into various aspects of using new technology of Piano Key Weir for the optimum utilization of the hydro power resources of Assam. It is claimed that this technology helps to reduce the reservoir sedimentation.
Some experts have suggested the use of latest technology of Piano Key Weir for construction of 2000MW NHPC's Lower Subansari hydro electric project, which is opposed by several groups.
Gogoi said experts during an interaction recently have suggested that flaws in the dams design can be rectified. It is claimed that this technology helps to reduce the reservoir sedimentation.
Work at project site of 2000MW Lower Subansari hydro electric project has come to halt since December last year following protest. Gogoi said, "Our job to give security. How to do the work is the headache of NHPC."
It is claimed that Piano key Weir technology helps to reduce the reservoir sedimentation. Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi. "We are also going to start a pilot project on experimental basis using the Piano Key Weir technology. Experts from different country will visit Assam. Necessary clearance for the visit will be obtained from the government of India."
Assam has got around Rs 720 Crore to fight the river bank erosion in the annual plan for 2012-13. Gogoi said anti erosion measures will be taken up. Assam is facing flood and erosion due to the 56 major rivers and about 26 of its tributaries.
