NEW DELHI: Delhi International Airport (DIAL), the capital���s private airport operator, has received the environmental clearance from the ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) for expansion, restructuring and modernisation of Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The clearance was issued to DIAL based on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study that involved measurement of existing ambient conditions including quality of air, water, soil characteristics, and noise levels. A statement from DIAL said the impact of the airport development activities on the existing ambient conditions are well within the statutory permissible limits.
DIAL is currently in the process of implementing the master plan for the expansion of Indira Gandhi International Airport. The master plan envisages the design and construction of a new terminal and a runway for the modernisation and upgradation of Delhi Airport.
The first phase of the master plan would include construction of a new passenger terminal building (Terminal 3), which would cater to both domestic and international passengers. Prior to that, a new domestic terminal and new CAT III B runway would be ready by 2008.
