West Bengal urban development minister Ashok Bhattacharjee tells how Siliguri is a favoured investment zone.

The Siliguri-Jalpaiguri development area is the second largest income-generating centre in the state after Kolkata. The opening of Nathu La Pass in Sikkim will help this area to grow more.
A set of township projects have come up, including Uttorayon (being developed by Luxmi Township Ltd), one by the Unitech Universal Siliguri Projects Ltd and the another one by SJDA. We have roped in major investments in sectors like IT and IT Parks. We are setting up an IT centre in Siliguri.
Videocon group is setting up a food processing unit and a Bio-Technology Park. For these projects, land has already been provided. The state government is developing a pineapple development centre.
Dabur India group is developing a food-processing centre in Siliguri. We will have a tea park soon and a dry port in SJDA.
Since we offer good rehabilitation packages for land-losers, there is no land dispute in SJDA. The local administration never takes any independent decision for land acquisition.
