DMRC okays extension of metro linkage to Faridabad

In a bid to connect the adjoining cities of the capital with a faster mode of transport, the board of directors of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has approved the extension of metro linkage from Badarpur to Faridabad.

NEW DELHI: In a bid to connect the adjoining cities of the capital with a faster mode of transport, the board of directors of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has approved the extension of metro linkage from Badarpur to Faridabad.

The 13.8 km elevated route from Badarpur to YMCA Chowk in Faridabad is estimated to cost about Rs 2000 crores as per the detailed project report (DPR) prepared by the Haryana government.

"The DPR was placed before the board of directors chaired by the Urban Development Secretary and it was approved after a threadbare discussion on the issue," said a senior Urban Development Ministry official.

"The aim is to decongest the capital city and the Metro linkage to Faridabad is a step in this direction," said the official.

Now the proposal would go to the Group of Ministers for final approval.

The work on the 20 km-long metro route connecting Central Secretariat with Badarpur is in progress and expected to be completed by September 2010.

"So now the proposed extension of metro route to Faridabad would be a great help for commuters coming daily to the capital," said the official.
