NEW DELHI: The Delhi government will soon provide flats costing only Rs one lakh to weaker sections of the population.
A total of 50,000 such flats will be built in Khanjawala, Bawana, Sampur and Neb Sarai, said Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) Managing Director Manoj Parida.
While 20,000 flats will come up at Khanjawala and Bawana, 7,656 flats will be built in Samapur and 700 in Neb Sarai.
Each flat, spread over 28 square metres, will cost Rs two lakh while the city government will provide a subsidy of Rs one lakh. The beneficiaries of the scheme will have to pay only Rs one lakh, Parida said.
DSIIDC is building these flats on behalf of the Delhi government and the scheme will be open to people evacuated from slums and those from economically weaker sections.
"The cost of the house will be kept to a minimum through technological innovations. The standard specifications of the houses will include ground plus three storeys," Parida said.
The areas where the flats will be built will also have parks, schools, dispensaries, security grills, boundary walls, milk and vegetable booths, creches, roads and pathways, he said.
"The entire area will be a combination of functionality, aesthetics and comfort," Parida said
