Continue land acquisition: ICC urges West Bengal Government

The Indian Chamber of Commerce has urged the West Bengal government not to back out from land acquisition for new industrial units in the state.

KOLKATA: The Indian Chamber of Commerce has urged the West Bengal government not to back out from land acquisition for new industrial units in the state.

Post Nandigram and Singur land acquisition controversies the state government had decided to distance itself from direct involvement in land acquisition and take the role of a facilator.

ICC, in its pre-budget memorandum, said that land acquisition remained a crucial issue for promoting industrial growth.

The Chamber projected an additional Rs one lakh crore investment in the state by 2010.

The Chamber in specific suggestions for the forthcoming state budget asked for restructuring of VAT rates and simplification of procedures.

The restructuring of VAT rates was sought in plastic water storage tanks, MS Hinges and MS Tower bolts, fiber cement roofing sheets and accessories, rice bran, entertainment tax on amusement parks, glass containers and sales to EoUs at zero rates.
