CII organises government-industry interface for industrial revival of Kanpur

LUCKNOW: In order to rejuvenate the economy of the once thriving industrial city of Kanpur, industrialists and government officials have thrashed out a 20 point agenda which would help restore the city’s glory as the leading centre of trade and commerce in North India.

Among the key suggestions was the setting up of two large industrial areas-one dedicated solely for the leather industry and the second for other sectors.

Representative of the industry and the government also agreed upon the need to improve operations at the dry port in Kanpur and complete automation of its operations for facilitating more imports and exports.

The meeting, which was organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), was attended by Commissioner Kanpur, Amit Ghosh, District Magistrate, Mukesh Meshram, CII North Deputy Chairman Vijay Thadani and CII UP Chairman Jayant Krishna besides several industrialists from the city.

Among the other issues, which were raised, was the completion of the 4-lane highway between Lucknow and Kanpur including the new bridge by March 2011.

Industrialists of the city also demanded improved connectivity and asked for night landing facility at the Chakeri airport in Kanpur with expansion of runway to be undertaken at the earliest.

Mr Jayanat Krishna said that complete stoppage of non-treated effluents into the river Ganga was also stressed upon.
Industrialists also demanded that Kanpur should be included in the zero power cut policy, which has been implemented in Lucknow and NOIDA.
