CIDCO acquires 1,153 hectare land for Navi Mumbai airport
The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) has acquired 1,153 hectare land for the proposed Rs 4,765-crore Navi Mumbai airport, CIDCO officials said here on Friday.
Work on acquiring 443 hectare land for the project is yet to be completed, the officials said at a meeting attended by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, who reviewed progress of land acquisition for the ambitious project.
CIDCO should implement a time-bound programme for land acquisition with help of local leaders and town planners, Deshmukh said.
The officials said around 16,000 people from seven villages and three hamlets would be displaced by the project and rehabilitated elsewhere.
Shares of the new airport company would be given to the project-affected families, the officials said. Tata Institute has been roped in to provide training to these people for finding job in the new company, they said.
Efforts have also been taken in consultation with various agencies to ensure that the project does not face risks of flooding in future, they said.
Chief Secretary Johny Joseph and additional chief secretary (revenue) Neela Satyanarayan were also present at the meeting.
