Chhattisgarh steps up geospatial, logistics planning with two PM GatiShakti pacts

Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government has signed two memoranda of understanding with BISAG-N and National Logistics Data Services Ltd (NLDSL) to boost the use of geospatial technology and integrated logistics data under the PM GatiShakti framework, officials said on Saturday.

The pacts with Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics and NLDSL, signed on August 20, aim to create better conditions for sustainable economic growth and investments.

The agreements were inked during the PM GatiShakti and LEADS 2025 Dissemination Workshop, jointly organised by the state Commerce and Industries Department and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), an official statement said.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said that PM GatiShakti has been strengthening data-driven decision-making in the state, enabling the government to plan infrastructure more effectively, identify connectivity and logistics gaps and support better-aligned industrial development, it said.

"This has been helping create stronger conditions for investment and sustainable economic growth," he said.

The day-long workshop was attended by officials from DPIIT and NLDSL and representatives of seven states, including Bihar, Odisha, Maharashtra, Goa and Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand, it said.

Chhattisgarh's progress under PM GatiShakti was one of the key highlights of the workshop. More than 35 state departments have been onboarded onto the platform, with 41 mandatory and over 600 additional data layers mapped, the release said.

The state has also developed 45 use cases and 30 tools to use the platform as a practical instrument for infrastructure and development planning, it said.

GIS-based identification of road black spots is being used to target interventions to prevent accidents and improve road safety, the statement said.

Similar data-driven approaches are being used to identify villages that lack adequate banking access and optimise bus routes under the government scheme, it said.

Around 600 mobile towers have been installed to improve connectivity at tourism locations, while 700 acres in Nava Raipur have been finalised under the Bhavya Scheme, it said.

Chhattisgarh has emerged as one of the leading states in operationalising PM GatiShakti and was recognised as a high performer among landlocked states in DPIIT's LEADS 2025 assessment, it said.

The Forest Department's "Gaj Sanket" app, aimed at reducing human-elephant conflict, is another example of using geospatial data to support decision-making based on the geographical nature of the problem, the statement said.
