Centre clears MP as part of proposed $100 bn DMIC project

The Centre has formally approved the Pitampura-Dhar-Mhow industrial region in Madhya Pradesh, home state of Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath, to be part of the proposed $100-billion Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor.

NEW DELHI: The Centre has formally approved the Pitampura-Dhar-Mhow industrial region in Madhya Pradesh, home state of Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath, to be part of the proposed $100-billion Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor.

In a communication to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nath expressed confidence that with the inclusion of Madhya Pradesh in the Japanese co-promoted DMIC, the state would have modern industrial infrastructure and investment environment, an official release said today.

The Union Cabinet has already approved the DMIC project, which would run parallel to the Delhi-Mumbai dedicated rail freight corridor, also being co-financed by Japan.

Thanks to Nath, under whose ministry the DMIC is being anchored, the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh would enjoy a unique status. Though it does not fall in the dedicated freight route, the state would get benefits of the industrial corridor.

Nath also informed Chouhan that investment regions in Pitampura-Dhar-Mhow and Neemuch-Nayagaon would have requisite infrastructure like industrial estates, knowledge hubs, agro-processing hubs, IT/ITES hubs, logistics hubs and physical infrastructure like feeder roads, rail lines, ports, airports and power.

The project would also leverage the road connectivity offered by the National Quadrilateral developed under the National Highway Programme.
