Cabinet clears ₹62,500 cr MPMS scheme: 'Focus now on components, design, research'

: The Union Cabinet has approved the ₹62,500-crore Mobile Phone Manufacturing Scheme (MPMS) to deepen India’s mobile manufacturing ecosystem by promoting domestic component sourcing, design, research, innovation and higher value addition. The government says the five-year scheme aims to generate around ₹39 lakh crore in mobile phone production, ₹15 lakh crore in exports, and 60,000 additional direct jobs, building on the Make in India and PLI programmes.
