PANCHKULA: The Union Minister of Communication and Information Technology A Raja on Thursday said the success of national E-Governance initiatives would be judged mainly by the benefits it brings to the common man.

"We now have more than a decade of experience behind us, and we have seen very interesting and innovative projects in many parts of the country, but many of them remain localized successes, Raja said while delivering a lecture at a two-day national conference on e-governance.

"We must therefore ensure that all citizens, irrespective of which part of the country, quickly get benefits of improved service delivery through e-governance," he added.

Stating that national e-governance plan adopted by the government was a major policy initiative to provide long-term growth of e-governance, he said that this plan was very beneficial for all citizens particularly those living in rural areas.

He further said that last month, the government had approved State Data Centre Scheme with a total outlay of Rs 1,623 crore and capacity building scheme with Rs 313 crore.

The SWAN had already been approved with an outlay of Rs 3,334 crore and Common Services Centres Scheme worth Rs 5,742 crore was also approved. With these schemes, all the physical building blocks and highly skilled human resource requirements of the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) have now been put in place, he said.
