The ministry of road transport and highways awarded 95 km of highways during the month of June while it constructed 1,934 km up to June in 2024-25 with capital expenditure of about Rs. 60,461 crore.

This is about 44.4% of the capital outlay under vote on account provision for the first five months of 2024-25, the ministry said in its monthly summary for the Cabinet.

Besides, the ministry notified inclusion of L2-5 as a new vehicle category: Ministry vide GSR 354(E) dated 26th June 2024 has included L2-5 as a new category of vehicle under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

“The purpose behind this regulation is to create an innovative E-mobility solution in which a two wheeled motor vehicle can run separately as well as can be coupled to a rear module to form a three wheeler,” the ministry said.

Further, it will provide more opportunity to three wheeled auto rickshaw owners to utilize the two-wheeler for commercial purposes namely viz. taxi aggregator, home delivery services, e-commerce, etc, it said.

“lt will also enable existing three wheeler owners to own a two wheeler for their commercial as well as personal use white allowing them flexibility to optimize the benefits,” the ministry added.
