PUNE: Divisional commissioner of Pune Dilip Mhaisekar has appealed commuters to avoid use of Pune Bangalore highway as sections of the road/bridges are under water at four places. More than 53,000 people have been evacuated from the 5 districts of Pune, Sangli, Kolhapur, Satara and Solapur so far.

"Please do not try to drive on the roads that are under water," appealed Mhaisekar.

"Pune division has so far received 133% rainfall, while highest rainfall in the division was recorded at Sangli at 208%," he said.


The administration has evacuated 13,336 people from Pune, 7,293 from Kolhapur, 31,782 from Sangli and 921 from Satara district.

Of the 103 big and 433 small bridges in the division, 34 bridges are under water cutting contact with areas connected by them.

Now the temple town of Pandharpur is like to face flood like situation from Tuesday night due to discharge from the Ujani reservoir. "We have already evacuated 1000 people from low lying areas of Pandharpur and will continue the work tomorrow morning too," said Mhaisekar.

Already teams of NDRF have been deployed in Kolhapur and Sangli district. 5 teams of NDRF have also left from Bhuvaneshvar for rescue. 1 team of navy with plane from Mumbai has also left. Along with this two coastal teams are also deployed in this area. Two troops of territorial army have also been deployed.
