NEW DELHI: There was a 446 per cent increase in construction of toilets since the launch of Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) last year and over 46 per cent rural households have toilets in their homes, the government today said.

In his reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation Ram Kripal Yadav said that as on August 6, 46.01 per cent rural households have toilet as reported by the states on online Monitoring System maintained by the Ministry.

The Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) has a goal to achieve Swachh Bharat by October 2, 2019, he added.

"There was a 446 per cent increase in construction of toilets after the launch of SBM-G in 2014-15 and the results achieved exceeded the expected outcomes," he replied to another question.
