White goods production to cross Rs 23K cr in FY-08
Production of 'white goods' in India, which is growing at 12.5 per cent, is likely to cross Rs 23,000-crore mark by the end of this fiscal, against Rs 20,500 crore in last year on increased demand, industry body ASSOCHAM says.

NEW DELHI: Production of 'white goods' in India, which is growing at 12.5 per cent, is likely to cross Rs 23,000-crore mark by the end of this fiscal, against Rs 20,500 crore in last year on increased demand, industry body ASSOCHAM says.
White goods segment includes electronic products such as home theatre systems, colour TV, DVD players and Microwave ovens etc.
As per the study conducted by Assocham, products like colour TV, home theatre and DVD players, have recored the fastest growth during the year.
"The colour TV production in 2006-07 fiscal as per our estimates was around 15.10 million units and it is expected to grow by 25 per cent this year," Assocham President Venugopal N Dhoot said in a statement.
Hi-end items like plasma display panels (PDP) and liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs have recorded growth of over 250 per cent in 2006-07, due to decline in prices of these products, the chamber said.
Most of the products in white goods segment are characterised by the intense competition due to the entry of MNCs, introduction of new models, price discounts and exchange schemes launched by them, the chamber added.
However, increasing popularity of easily available consumer loans and the expansion of hire-purchase schemes would give moral boost to the price sensitive consumers, it added.
