Unemployment rate in urban India in the October-December quarter of 2021-22 fell for the second consecutive quarter to 8.7% from 9.8% in July-September quarter and 12.6% in the April-June quarter after the ebbing of the second wave of the pandemic. It stood at 10.3% in the same quarter of 2020-21.

The quarterly periodic labour force survey released by the ministry of statistics and programme implementation on Friday showed male unemployment rate during the period at 8.3% while the female urban unemployment rate was higher at 10.5%, the trend seen over the last several quarters.

As per the survey, the labour force participation rate for all ages had increased quarter-on-quarter and stood at 47.3% in October-December quarter compared to 46.9% in July-September quarter.
