Rice prices surge by up to Rs 200 a quintal

The wholesale prices of basmati rice on Monday rose by up to Rs 200 a quintal in the national capital on the back of pick up in demand from exporters.

NEW DELHI: The wholesale prices of basmati rice on Monday rose by up to Rs 200 a quintal in the national capital on the back of pick up in demand from exporters.

Non-basmati rice, mostly consumed by retail consumers, also showed some strength.

Super basmati rice prices were up by Rs 200 at Rs 8,100 a quintal on the back of persistent demand from exporters, mostly triggered by appreciating US dollar against rupee.

Basmati rice (common) variety prices were also up by Rs 50 at Rs 6650-6820 a quintal.

Among non-basmati rice permal raw and permal wand prices were up by Rs 20 each at Rs 1420-1550 and Rs 1625-1770 a quintal respectively.

Following were today's quotations per quintal: Wheat MP (deshi) 1330-1530, wheat dara (for mills) 1055-1105, chakki atta (delivery) 1120-1125, Chakki atta Rajdhani (10 kgs) 150, shakti bhog (10 kgs) 150, roller flour mill 1105-1110, maida 1130-1150 (90 kilos) and sooji 1200-1215 (90 kgs).

Rice basmati (lal quila) 7200, Shri Lal Mahal 8000, Super basmati rice 8,100, Basmati common 6600-6770, Permal raw 1420-1550, permal wand 1625-1770, sela 1900-2050 and rice IR-8 1275-1400, Bajra 675-680, Jowar yellow 670-720, white 1215-1275, Maize 740-755, Barley (UP) 1185-1215 and Rajasthan 1120-1130.
