Retail inflation for industrial workers up at 8.72 pc in May

The all India retail inflation for industrial workers in May fell to 8.72% from 9.41% in the previous month on the back of decrease in prices.

NEW DELHI: The all India retail inflation for industrial workers in May fell to 8.72 per cent from 9.41 per cent in the previous month on the back of decrease in prices of wheat atta, vegetable and pan leaf.

The inflation based on food index in May was at 7.61 per cent compared to 8.24 per cent in April.

The retail inflation numbers are based on All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW).

During May, the CPI (IW) index recorded maximum fall of four points in Rangapur Tezpur, followed by a decrease of three points in Ghaziabad centre, two in Guwahati and one point in 10 other centres. In 21 centre, it remained stationary, the data released by Ministry of Labour and Employment showed.

The overall inflation based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) was 9.06 per cent in May, while it was 8.66 per cent in the previous month.
