Retail inflation for industrial workers at 5.32 per cent in January

NEW DELHI: The point-to-point retail inflation for industrial workers in January stood at 5.32 per cent as compared to 6.49 per cent in the previous month.

"The point to point rate of inflation based on Consumer Price Index-Industrial Worker for the month of January, 2012 is 5.32 per cent," an official release said today.

It further said that the retail inflation based on food index dipped to the level of 0.49 per cent in January as compared to 1.97 per cent in December, 2011.

The CPI-IW index for the month of January, 2012 increased by one point and stood at 198 mainly due to housing index and increase food prices.

During January, the CPI-IW index recorded maximum increase of 9 points each in Haldia and Bhilai centres. The maximum increase is mainly on account of Housing Index and increase in the prices of Wheat and Mustard Oil.

The index declined by the 3 points each in Rangapara Tezpur and Godavarikhani centres. The decline of three points in these two centres is due to decrease in the prices of rice, onion, chillies green and vegetable items.
