Rare chance of Monsoon revival in Rajasthan: MeT

JAIPUR: Despite monsoon activity in central Indian and southern peninsula regions early this week, there would be a rare chance of rains in Rajasthan, a MeT official here said today.

Monsoon withdrawal phenomenon was over last month from the state, and there was a least chance of mosoon related rains in Rajasthan, the state MeT Director O P Sreejith told PTI here.

Any western disturbance might cause scattered rains later this month in a few regions of the state, the Director said, adding even no side effect of monsoonal clouds from Madhya Pradesh will give relief to Rajasthan.

For over 28 days there was no major rainfall in the state, he said.

Meanwhile a senior officer of state Agriculture Department said the Kharif crop sowing was done perfectly in the early months of monsoon, June and July, and even crops including Bajra, cereals and pulses were waiting for irrigation.

It was too early to predict any drought kind of situation in the state, the official added.

So far the state has received 484.35 mm of average rain in the state, but the rains in August and September were less than expected, causing main concern for irrigation, he said.

With dry weather conditions the maximum temperature has shot up to 40 degree C yesterday at many places in western Rajasthan covering Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Churu and Bikaner, a Met report said. While hot and humid weather conditions prevailed in rest of the state, the report indicated.
