Petro price hike will affect Gujarat adversely: Vyas
The Gujarat Government on Saturday said that the inapt handling of the petroleum product pricing by the Centre will affect the state badly and make it difficult for it to achieve the growth rate of 11.2 per cent.

GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat Government on Saturday said that the inapt handling of the petroleum product pricing by the Centre will affect the state badly and make it difficult for it to achieve the growth rate of 11.2 per cent.
The Gujarat government has formed a four-member committee comprising ministers to suggest ways to reduce Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol in a way that it will not affect the growth of the state. The committee is likely to give a report on Monday.
"The Central Government has handelled the issue of petroleum price hike in a very unprofessional way which will increase the burden on progressive states like Gujarat," Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas told reporters here.
"Instead of increasing the price at one go, it should have been done it in gradual manner linking it with the international crude price rise, Vyas said.
He said that the price rise will affect the state as it is one of the bigger consumer of petroleum products and public transport run by the state will also be affected.
The price rise will also make it very difficult for progressive state like Gujarat to achive the growth rate of 11.2 per cent set by the Planning Commission.
Many states have decreased the taxes on petroleum products to give relief to the people, while Gujarat Government has formed a committee.
Gujarat charges 24 per cent VAT on petroleum products.
