No decision yet on presentation of Broadcasting Bill in Parliament

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi on Tuesday declined to comment on whether the much-delayed Broadcasting Bill would be presented in the upcoming Monsoon Session of the Parliament.

NEW DELHI: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi on Tuesday declined to comment on whether the much-delayed Broadcasting Bill would be presented in the upcoming Monsoon Session of the Parliament.

"The Bill is still in the process," the minister said when asked about its status and whether it would be introduced in the monsoon session.

Dasmunsi, who was attending a sports function here, refused to comment on the issue saying "it was not the right time to talk about it".

The bill has been hanging fire for the last two years and even though the private broadcasters under the aegis of News Broadcasters Association (NBA) have submitted their proposals on content regulation to the ministry, it is yet to take a decision on its future.

Apart from this, with the Government yet to take a decision regarding when to convene the monsoon session, the bill's fate seems to hang in balance
