PUNE: The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) expects the monsoon to cover most parts of India by end of June, except North-West India. Monsoon rainfall is expected to reach central India by June 25th, it said.

The extended range forecast of IITM based on June 10 conditions issued for next 20 to 25 days also expects the west coast to get above normal rainfall for a week after June 17th.

"It is likely that by June 17, offshore trough along the west coast will be established. Thereafter, the rainfall activity will be above normal for a week over west coast," says IITM's forecast.

The Monsoon Intra-seasonal Oscillation (MISO) indicates that the rainfall will be less than normal for next 15 to 20 days towards central and northern parts of the country.

"While the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) too is likely to turn unfavourable after two to three days. The MJO convection is moving towards west Pacific where there is already convection due to El Nino," said an IITM scientist requesting not to be quoted.
