Maha attracted highest no of industrial proposals in 1991-2010

MUMBAI: Maharashtra attracted the highest number of industrial proposals in the country between August, 1991, and August, 2010, the Economic Survey of the state for 2010-11 claims.

The survey was released recently. The reasons for the state's attractiveness as an industry destination were "availability of better infrastructure, skilled human resources and stable social conditions," the report says.

The state's share in investment, and employment generation in the country is 10 and 15 per cent, respectively

"Maharashtra approved 16,140 proposals and Gujarat 10,666 between August, 1991, and August, 2010. The proposals promised employment generation of 30.24 lakh in Maharashtra and 19.49 lakh in Gujarat," the report says.

However, the total amount invested (or to be invested) in those projects was Rs 6,95,516 crore for Maharashtra, which was less than Gujarat (Rs 8,59,787 crore).

In terms of the number of investment proposals, the states trailing Maharashtra and Gujarat in the same period were Tamil Nadu (8,502 proposals with investment of Rs 3,54,710 crore), Andhra Pradesh (7,237 proposals with investment of Rs 6,94,640 crore) and Uttar Pradesh (7,380 proposals with investment of Rs 2,26,232 crore).

The number of projects commissioned during the same period in Maharashtra was 8,322, with investment of Rs 1,95,407 crore and employment generation of 8,45,723, the report says.
