BHUBANESWAR: Heavy to very heavy rainfall, coupled with gusty surface wind, is likely to hit several parts of Odisha due to low pressure over the Bay of Bengal, the weather department said here today.

Sea condition will be rough to very rough, the Met Office said, advising fishermen not to venture into sea.

The low-pressure area of yesterday now lies over north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal. The situation is likely to improve in the next 24 hours, it said.

Under its impact, rains and thundershowers are likely to occur at most places over Odisha, the Met office said.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places, with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of south Odisha, is likely to occur during the next 24 hours, it said.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected at one or two places over the districts of north Odisha, it added.

Strong gusty surface wind from the northwesterly direction in the southern region and southeasterly direction in the northern region with a speed reaching 45-50 kmph, and gusts up to 60 kmph, are likely to prevail along and off the Odisha coast.
