Kerala's revenue, fiscal deficits show declining trend

Kerala's revenue and fiscal deficit has shown a declining trend in the last four years even as the public debt continues to increase touching almost Rs 50,000 crore, according to state Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac on Monday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala's revenue and fiscal deficit has shown a declining trend in the last four years even as the public debt continues to increase touching almost Rs 50,000 crore, according to state Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac on Monday.
As per provisional figures of 2006-07, the state's public debt had gone up to Rs 49,871.74 crore from Rs 31,060.27 crore in 2002-03, Isaac told the state assembly in a written reply.
While the revenue deficit fell from Rs 4,118.67 crore to 2,589.33 crore between 2002-03 and 2006-07, the fiscal deficit came down from Rs 4,990.04 crore to Rs 3,774.88 crore during the period.
The growth rate also marked a marginal increase from 11.28 per cent in 2002-03 to 12.61 per cent at current prices and 7.07 per cent to 8.78 per cent in constant prices, he added.
