Kerala launches Socio economic survey

A detailed socio economic survey was launched here on Wednesday by Kerala Planning Board Vice-Chairman Prabhat Patnaik.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A detailed socio economic survey, covering various aspects like household consumer expenditure, was launched here on Wednesday by Kerala Planning Board Vice-Chairman Prabhat Patnaik.

Expenditure in education, employment and unemployment and migration of work force were the other socio-economic parameters covered in the survey, undertaken by the National Sample Survey Organisation, an official press release said.

NSSO Deputy Director General C R Kalyanakrishnan Nair said the survey would continue upto June 30, 2008 and would cover both urban and rural areas in the state.

The information collected through the survey would prove very useful to the government in planning policies and devising developement programmes, he added.

S M Vijayanand, Principal Secretary, State Local Self-government department, was also present.
