Kerala was on Monday declared "Total Banking State" providing at least one bank account for every household.

THIRUVANATHAPURAM: Kerala was on Monday declared "Total Banking State" providing at least one bank account for every household.

This was announced by Union Minister of State for Finance Pawan Kumar Bansal at a meeting of the State Level Bankers Committee.

Kerala is the third state to achieve the status after Himachal Pradesh and Goa.

Addressing the meeting, Bansal praised the role played by the banking community in the state for the achievement.

The declaration marks the culmination of a year-long campaign launched by SLBC with the involvement of all nationalised banks, cooperative banks, peoples representatives and self-help groups like 'Kudumbashree,' Chairman and Managing Director of Canara Bank M B N Rao said.
