India's manufacturing activity slows to four-month low in April
NEW DELHI: Growth in India's manufacturing sector slowed to a four-month low in April as demand weakened, a private business survey showed on Monday.

The Nikkei Markit Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index fell to 50.5 in April from 52.4 in March. A reading above 50 denotes expansion.

The survey indicated that Indian manufacturers raised output at a slower pace in April as new business inflows were broadly unchanged during the month. The upturn in new export orders was sustained, although growth was at a six-month low.

" PMI data for India show a marked slowdown in output expansion during April, as growth of new work ground to a halt," said Pollyanna De Lima, an economist at Markit, which compiles the index.
