Industrial production regains momentum, grows 3.1% in September
India’s industrial growth, measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), recorded a growth of 3.1 per cent in September, as against a contraction of 0.7 per cent in August, data released by the National Statistical Office showed.

The manufacturing sector, constituting a major chunk of IIP which is close to 77 per cent, recorded a growth of 1.8 per cent in September.

The mining sector, weighing nearly 14 per cent, rose by 4.6 percent. Meanwhile, the electricity segment grew by 11.6 per cent.


“For the month of September 2022, the Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with base 2011-12 stands at 133.5 The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors for the month of September 2022 stand at 99.5, 134.3 and 187.4 respectively,” stated a press release.

As per the use-based classification, the primary goods segment recorded a growth of 9.3 per cent in September. The other sectors including infrastructure, capital goods, and intermediate goods witnessed an increase of 7.4 per cent, 10.3 per cent and 2 per cent respectively.

Consumer durables and non-durables sector contracted by 4.5 per cent and 7.1 per cent in the month of September.
