Indian cos raise $2.83 bn via ECBs in Sept

MUMBAI: India firms, including Reliance Industries, have raised $2.83 billion from overseas markets last month.

Of the total, RIL raised $1.65 billion in September, the Reserve Bank said in a release issued here on Wednesday.

Other Indian companies including Britannia, Grasim, Aditya Birla Nuvo raised ECB worth about $2.46 billion through the approval route and $370 million through automatic route, it said.

Gujarat State Petroleum Corp was the other major borrower under the approval route. The company raised $325 million in September and GTL Infrastructure raised $150 million in the same period.

Meanwhile, Aryan Coal Benefications borrowed $80 million while Bhushan Power and Steel raised $55 million, the RBI figure revealed.
