India to participate in Asia-Europe Meeting on SMEs

India will seek greater cooperation for development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), with special emphasis on cluster development, at the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) on SMEs sector to be held in China.


NEW DELHI: India will seek greater cooperation for development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), with special emphasis on cluster development, at the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) on SMEs sector to be held in China.

Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Mahabir Prasad is leading a delegation to China tomorrow to attend the two-day Ministerial Meeting.

He would speak on "Cooperation among and Development of SMEs", and would interact with leaders of various ASEM countries regarding development of the sector, an official release said today.

SMEs account for more than 95 per cent of all enterprises in most ASEM countries, acting as a driving force for technological innovation, employment generation and economic growth.

The meeting aims to strengthen dialogue among governmental agencies in charge of SMEs in ASEM members, discuss policies and measures and create effective social service policy.

The meet would also focus on improving capacities of SMEs in innovation and competitiveness, enhancing cooperation among ASEM members, strengthening regional cooperation of industrial clusters and expanding mutual investment areas.
