India headed in the right direction says Ipsos survey

MUMBAI: A large majority of Indians, 72% feel India is heading towards the right direction say 72% of according to a recent survey by global research major Ipsos. Indians are the 3rd most optimistic nationality expressing confidence in Modi government’s socio-economic policies and believe that it is heading in the right direction.

Modi government’s flagship economic initiative ‘Make in India’ is like to boost manufacturing by facilitating easy conduct of business, improving competitiveness of domestic industry and creating millions of new jobs.

The recently launched ‘Start Up India, Stand Up India’ scheme promoted by the government is intended to foster innovation, encourage new-age entrepreneurship and create millions of new job opportunities.

Amit Adarkar, Managing Director (India), Ipsos said, “India is set to be the fastest growing large economy in the world outpacing China's growth in the year 2015-16. IMF has predicted China's growth at 6.3 per cent in 2015-16 while World Bank has predicted India's GDP at 7.5 per cent in 2015-16.”

With the government easing foreign direct investment norms in various sectors, including defence, construction, civil aviation and media the investment from foreign investors is seen on a rise in 2016. Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion has in fact pegged FDI to grow by 45 per cent in 2016 despite global slowdown.

“All the above mentioned initiatives by the government among others have added to the confidence level of Indian public and have created a positive image that the country is heading towards the right direction,” added Adarkar.

Looking ahead into 2016, Ipsos asked global respondents if things in their country are heading in the right direction, or on the wrong track.However, a majority of global citizens say things are off on the wrong track. Only four in 10 (38%) say things in their country are heading in the right direction. The majority (62%) say things in their country are off on the wrong track.

About nine out of ten (89%) citizen of China feel things in their country are heading towards the right direction, followed by Saudi Arabia (78%), India (72%), Argentina (68%), and Russia (60%).

On the other end of the spectrum, only 9 per cent citizen of Brazil are of the opinion that things in their country are heading towards the right direction, followed by South Africa (10%), Mexico (15%), Peru (19%), and Italy (20%).
