India is among the top 10 countries with an optimistic economic outlook for year 2009, says an year end poll conducted by TNS Gallup International.

Though the survey, conducted in 46 countries covering nearly 46,000 people, reveals that people expect a tough year ahead, three BRIC nations, namely India, China and Russia are among the 10 most optimistic nations.

As per the survey, 42% of the people in India expect that the coming year will be better than 2008 with around one third saying the economy would be more prosperous this year.

But, the optimism levels have dropped within the country. For instance, in the outlook survey for 2008, more than 50% of the people surveyed in India expected a better 2008 compared to 2007, as compared to only 42% this year.

The survey also pointed the fact that people in India are worried about job losses and increase in unemployment this year. While majority of the Indian population feels safer their present jobs, they also believe that finding new jobs will take longer now.

As a result even as 32% of Indians foresees economic prosperity for the nation in 2009, a majority of them also expects unemployment to increase in 2009.
