IIP growth decelerates to 12.3 percent YoY in June

India’s industrial growth, measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), recorded a growth of 12.3 percent in June, as against 19.6 percent in May, data released by the National Statistical Office showed.

The manufacturing sector, constituting a major chunk of IIP which is close to 77 percent, recorded a growth of 12.5 percent in June as against 20.6 percent in May.

The mining sector, weighing nearly 14 percent, rose by 7.5 percent. Meanwhile, the electricity segment grew by 16.4 percent as against 23.5 in the preceding month.


“The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors for the month of June 2022 stand at 113.4, 136.3 and 196.9 respectively,” stated a press release.

IIP had grown percent in June last year, due to low-base effect.

As per the use-based classification, the primary goods segment recorded a growth of 13.7 percent in June. The other sectors including infrastructure, capital goods, and intermediate goods witnessed an increase of 8 percent, 26.1 percent and 11 percent respectively.

Consumer durables and non-durables sector grew by 23.8 percent and 2.9 percent in the month of June.

The core sector, which comprises 40.27 percent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), had risen by over 12.7 percent in the month of June.
