Govt ensuring inclusive growth: Montek Singh
"Though I have not read Alan's book, I don't agree with him. We are doing a lot to make growth more inclusive..." Ahluwalia said.
"Though I have not read Alan's book, I don't agree with him. We are doing a lot to make growth more inclusive...our economic scenario is very good," Ahluwalia said, dismissing the observation of Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the US Federal Reserve, that the UPA government headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is not doing enough on farm reforms.
"We are growing at 8.5 per cent to nine per cent. We have managed an average growth of 8.5 per cent in the last five years, which we never had before, and the inflation rate is below four per cent," he said on the sidelines of a Bombay Chamber of Commerce function yesterday.
If the reform process continues, we will be able to touch 10 per cent growth rate by the end of the 11th Five Year Plan, Ahluwalia said.
"The 11th Five Year Plan has a lot for those people living below poverty line, including farmers and labourers. We are confident that the growth process we are witnessing today is more inclusive and will do more for the poor than in the past," he said.
He was responding to the observations made by Greenspan in his latest book "The Age of Turbulence - Adventures in a New World" where he has reportedly criticised the government on several issues, including labour reforms.
