Govt ask luxury industry to become globally visible
Government today asked the luxury and fashion goods industry to leverage from traditional art and craft for creating a global visibility and setting up the country as a manufacturing hub.
"Education and employment will spawn such an initiative and I can envision fashion institutes from the West bringing their best practices to India," Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Ashwani Kumar said while inaugurating FICCI's Lifestyle Forum here.
Some of the leading French brands like Comite Colbert and USA's luxury institutes would be involved with the forum for road shows and other events.
The minister said skill integration with French craftsmen to bring international expertise would help develop synergies with brands as well as generate employment in India.
"We encourage this move towards skill integration and invite India indigenous brands to seek the right expertise, finance and skill integration from Western workshops for designers," Kumar said.
A report 'India as a future manufacturing hub for global fashion and luxury goods' released here said the production of luxury items in the country could grow to 500 million dollar in next two to three years.
The country is also poised to become a manufacturing hub for global luxury brands in the next four to five years, the report said.
