Government studying feasibility of having a business index

Corporate Affairs Minister Sachin Pilot said that the Ministry has undertaken a pilot study to see the feasibility of developing a business index.

NEW DELHI: The government on Thursday said it is studying the feasibility of having a business index for the Indian industry.

In a written reply to Lok Sabha, Corporate Affairs Minister Sachin Pilot said that the Ministry has undertaken a pilot study to see the feasibility of developing a business index.

As part of a pilot study, a literature review has been taken up and a list of variables measuring the micro/business aspects of corporate performance to be drawn from primary and secondary sources has been broadly identified, the Minster said.

"The finding of the pilot study as a concept paper is under consideration," he added.

He said further details would emerge after completion of the pilot study and sharing its findings with concerned ministries and departments.

The business index, if and when developed, would aimed at measuring the overall business climate at regular intervals on the basis of well defined basket of identifiable and measurable parameters, Pilot said.
